About the AEF

(1) Definition

The Asian Electronics Forum should be an annual international event in which the Electronic Associations in Asia gather together to discuss and exchange views on important issues affecting the electronic industries in Asia.

It is important to emphasis that AEF is not in competition with WEF, participants of AEF are encouraged to join WEF. In fact the two forum should be complementary to each other.

1.1. Objectives :

1.1.1. To discuss and declare objectives of AEF
1.1.2. To foster free trade
1.1.3. To foster closer economic ties by:

* establishing channels of communication
* promoting more information exchange
* alerting members on government's new policies on import, tax, standards and technology, and
environmental/ecological legislations

1.1.4. Standards and regulations

* Prevailing market and economic conditions
* Future product trends and technology development
* Environmental concerns
* Standards and regulations

1.1.5. To promote and strengthen the networking between the different Associations so as to facilitate:

* Business
* Exchange of information
* Free flow of people
* Advancement of technology
* Trade fairs and exhibitions

1.1.6 To enhance the status and influence of electronics and the Associations

* To government
* In the society
* Within the industry

1.2. Who can join?

(Based on WEF definitions) Electronic Associations in each country are all eligible

* It is on a voluntary basis
* Not a membership entity
* No subscription fees or annual dues
* Non profit making
* Focus on electronics only

1.3. Timing of the meetings:

* Preliminary : Country/territory Between April and May of each year
* Forum duration; 3 days

1.4. Activities:

* Meetings
* Seminars
* Visits to industry, science parks
* Visit to exhibitions (if one is taking place)
* Sightseeing

1.5. Venue:

By rotation in different territory, to be decided by voting at the close of each meeting.

1.6. Expenses :

The host country/association will be responsible for all landed cost. Attending participants will be responsible for their own air fares and lodging expenses.

1.7. Secretariat :

* There may be one permanent secretariat on a voluntary bases, this is purely for general coordination
and correspondence.
* The host country will be fully responsible for the logistics for that year's event.
* The HKEIA has been nominated to be the general(permanent) secretariat for a period of three years. Thereafter the secretariat may be rotated to another Association.
